Robert E. Berry, DO, Chairman

When Dr Berry was a student athlete in high school he had a serious sports injury that nearly ended his athletic career. Dr Berry’s family didn’t have the financial means to receive the care he needed on their own. An orthopedic surgeon in his community donated his time and service to treat Dr Berry at no cost to him or his family. Dr Berry never forgot the kindness and generosity of this surgeon and vowed to pay it forward one day. This orthopedic surgeon became a mentor to Dr Berry writing his letter of recommendation to medical school and encouraged him to become an orthopedic surgeon. Today the Texas Youth Sports Medicine Foundation is continuing the care and charity that was shown to Dr Berry many years ago by serving the youth and families of North Texas.

Wes Bowers

Since meeting Dr. Berry shortly after he arrived in Frisco nearly 20 years ago, I have known of his desire to create this foundation. As our friendship developed, so did the size of his dreams and his passion for this cause. I am thrilled to be a member of the board in this extremely important endeavor and see it become a reality.

My five-year leadership position in a nonprofit serving under-resourced individuals around Dallas several years ago led me to realize the value of working alongside individuals like Dr. Berry – professionals that were never too busy to give generously to others in need.

As an executive serving businesses for the past 30 years, I admire seeing all that Dr. Berry has done and will continue to do for our community through his foundation. My wife, Vanessa, and our two children, Bailey and Turner, follow me in this passion for the foundation’s potential to make a real difference for those in need of the highest level of orthopedic care to overcome sports related injuries.

I am a Graduate of Furman University in Greenville, SC and one of three boys.  We were all fortunate to receive a college education through athletic scholarships. None of us would have attended college without the opportunity to play sports, so I know first hand how valuable the foundation will be to those that have injuries limiting their ability to receive a college education.

Don’t let a lack of resources prevent you from getting the help your child needs.
